Activities in and around Coffee Bay

Coffee Bay is a small rural seaside village located on the "real" Wild Coast of South Africa.

There is no commercial centre and there are no malls, cinemas, beachfront shops and restaurants - no bank or even an ATM - so don't expect to be entertained by typical city attractions!

It's a place where people come to experience the unspoiled beauty of the natural coastline , just to "chill", or to participate in activities ungoverned by technology.

Exercise  - or relax - your muscles and your mind with activities like :

  • hiking to a number of beautiful spots along the coast
  • swimming
  • exploring rock pools with the children
  • lazing on the beach and soaking up the sun
  • surfing
  • snorkelling and diving
  • fishing (please note - a valid fishing license is required)
  • a visit to a local Xhosa homestead
  • a scenic drive to other attractive destinations in the area

The backpacker hostels conduct a number of excursions to join in with, such as :

  • a hike to Hole in the Wall
  • a hike to a traditional Xhosa homestead
  • a hike to coastal cliffs, exploring caves
  • surfing lessons
